Main Roads WA are planning to upgrade Tonkin Highway from north of Hale Road to south of Kelvin Road. The work will include major changes to the intersections with Hale Road, and Welshpool Road East, both being within the City of Kalamunda area.
The work will include widening the highway from four to six lanes, and building new facilities for pedestrians and cyclists along the corridor with links to the City's cycling network.
The construction timeframe is not yet known, as there is significant planning, approvals and design to be undertaken.

Please be advised that the City does not have any further information regarding the intersection plans at this time. Once an update is provided the City will be arranging a Council report and media release.
The design for this intersection has not been confirmed. A concept idea is provided here (extracted from the Main Roads WA's May 2020 project update).
The design for this intersection has not been confirmed. Early advice from Main Roads WA suggests this may be a grade separated diamond interchange, however the exact format is subject to detailed traffic modelling and design.
