Prepare your application

For your application to be shortlisted, it must demonstrate that you meet the minimum criteria for the position.

2. Create your Covering Letter (max. 2 pages); include response to the Selection Criteria (if required, see advertisement); and
3. Update your Curriculum Vitae (Resume), ensure it includes:
• Full name

• Work history (most recent first)
• Education and training history
• Contact details for at least two referees that can comment on your recent work history from a supervisory capacity.

Attending the Interview

1. Bring along any supporting documents, if required.
2. Arrive 15 minutes early to read through the interview questions and prepare your responses.
3. The recruitment panel consists of at least two members. Interviews follow a set format to ensure equity and fairness to each applicant.
4. Interviews range from 30 minutes to 1 hour in duration depending on the role.

Further Assessment

• After the interview, People Services may contact your referees to conduct a Reference Check
• For some roles a medical and/or drug & alcohol screen maybe undertaken
• For some senior or specialty roles further selection testing may be undertaken such as skills assessment tests, emotional intelligence tests and/or cognitive ability tests.
• For some roles a police check and/or Working with Children Check will be required.
• All successful candidates will need to provide 100 points of ID and proof of their working rights in Australia.

Outcome

• The successful candidate will be verbally offered the position, on acceptance they are given a written Offer of Employment.
• Once they accept, the other interviewed candidates will be advised by phone call and all other candidates will be advised by email.

The City of Kalamunda is seeking an accomplished and forward-thinking Manager Waste, Fleet and Facilities to lead and optimise the delivery of essential City services. This strategic leadership role will drive innovation and sustainability across waste and resource recovery, fleet operations, and facility management, ensuring efficient, compliant and community-focused outcomes for a growing City.

About this Opportunity 

As the Manager Waste, Fleet and Facilities, you will lead the strategic and operational management of the City’s waste, fleet, and facilities maintenance functions. You will oversee high-performing teams delivering sustainable waste and resource recovery services, efficient fleet management, and proactive facility maintenance programs that support the City’s strategic goals.

You will:

• Lead the Waste, Fleet and Facilities business unit to ensure effective delivery of services across the City.
• Drive sustainability initiatives that reduce landfill and promote recycling in line with the City’s Waste Plan.
• Oversee management of the Walliston Transfer Station and large external waste contracts.
• Ensure the City’s fleet meets safety and low-emission standards through effective procurement and lifecycle management.
• Oversee facility maintenance programs that support statutory, proactive, and reactive service delivery.
• Manage budgets, tenders, and contracts in accordance with the City’s financial and governance frameworks.
• Provide strong leadership to a multidisciplinary team focused on continuous improvement, safety, and customer service excellence.
• Engage with the community, contractors, and stakeholders to enhance service delivery, promote sustainability, and ensure responsive customer-focused outcomes.

About You 

You are an experienced and dynamic leader who brings strong operational, strategic, and people management capabilities. You thrive in a complex environment and are committed to delivering sustainable services that make a tangible impact on the community. 

You will hold:

• As a minimum, a tertiary qualification relevant to the business or allied skills in the areas or relevant experience
• Post graduate qualifications in project and or contract management or allied skill areas
• At least 5 years’ experience as a Coordinator where you managed significant number of staff

About this Opportunity

The Workshop Mechanic is responsible for the day-to-day servicing, maintenance, and repair of the City’s fleet, plant, and equipment. This role ensures operational reliability, safety, and compliance by following preventative maintenance programs and manufacturer guidelines. The position may also support parts handling, job documentation, and basic inventory tasks as part of the workshop team.
Key Responsibilities but are not limited to:

• Carry out servicing, repairs, and maintenance of the City’s fleet, plant, and equipment in line with workshop schedules.
• Ensure road-registered vehicles are roadworthy and compliant with safety and legislative standards.
• Perform on-site and workshop-based maintenance to maximise equipment availability.
• Support preventative and predictive maintenance programs using the latest tools and diagnostic equipment.
• Assist with parts identification, ordering, and basic inventory management.
• Maintain a safe and clean work environment, following WHS procedures and reporting hazards or incidents promptly.
• Ensure high-quality workmanship and contribute to overall workshop efficiency and performance.

About YouYou will bring:

• Mechanical Trade Certificate or equivalent
• ‘HR’ class driver’s license
• Basic First Aid Training (Desirable)

Selection Criteria

1. Relevant mechanical experience.
2. Maintenance and repairs of vehicles, plant, and equipment.
3. Maintain accurate written and computer records for services and/or repairs of the City's assets.
4. Responsible for maintaining a neat and tidy workplace which is safe for staff and those who enter the workshop area.
5. Responsible for ensuring work environment and work practices are safe for staff and report any accidents or incidents on appropriate forms.
6. Prior to commencing tasks, assess foreseeable hazards, report and ensure corrective action to eliminate or reduce risk of injury or damage to people, plant, and equipment.
7. Extensive light vehicle and truck servicing skills
8. Sound knowledge of safe operating procedures and maintenance of tools and equipment.
9. Sound knowledge of vehicle transmission, suspension, etc.
10. Sound knowledge of small plant such as mowers, whipper snippers, chainsaws, etc.
11. Auto-electrical, hydraulic and tyre fitting skills desired but not essential.
12. Works cooperatively and effectively with others to achieve common goals.
13. Participates in building a team though coaching, guidance, and support.
14. Well-developed verbal and written communication skills including ability to                                                                provide outstanding customer service.
15. Demonstrated knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety issues both in terms of personal responsibility, team and public.
    

Hours of Work
This is a permanent full-time position working Monday to Friday, 76 hours per fortnight. Flexible work arrangements are available, with the option of a 9-day fortnight.

About the BenefitsThis position offers a salary of $92,565.03 to $95,369.56 per annum, (depending on experience and skill level) plus superannuation.  Other inclusions are free parking, annual increments, EBA salary increases, a generous superannuation co-contribution scheme, 22 days annual leave which attracts 17.5% loading, Medibank/HIF/HBF Corporate Membership, free access to online learning, discounted membership at City owned facilities.
