Prepare your application

Attending the Interview

1. Bring along any supporting documents, if required.
2. Arrive 15 minutes early to read through the interview questions and prepare your responses.
3. The recruitment panel consists of at least two members. Interviews follow a set format to ensure equity and fairness to each applicant.
4. Interviews range from 30 minutes to 1 hour in duration depending on the role.

Further Assessment

• After the interview, People Services may contact your referees to conduct a Reference Check
• For some roles a medical and/or drug & alcohol screen maybe undertaken
• For some senior or specialty roles further selection testing may be undertaken such as skills assessment tests, emotional intelligence tests and/or cognitive ability tests.
• For some roles a police check and/or Working with Children Check will be required.
• All successful candidates will need to provide 100 points of ID and proof of their working rights in Australia.

Outcome

• The successful candidate will be verbally offered the position, on acceptance they are given a written Offer of Employment.

We have an exciting opportunity for a Maintenance Operator to assist in the completion of drainage maintenance as part of the City’s Works program. 

About this Opportunity

Reporting to the Crew Leader Drainage Maintenance, this role is responsible for safely and efficiently operate and maintain a variety of plant items, including a 5-tonne excavator and trucks to assist in the completion of Stormwater Drainage construction and maintenance projects as part of the Councils Works Program, whilst providing a high level of customer service to Council’s internal and external clients to ensure efficient and effective operations. 

Have great leadership skills and can act in Crew Leader role when the Crew Leader is away on leave.

This position works within a small, highly motivated team. Some of the duties of this role include:

• Operate and maintain an excavator and a variety of items of other plant and machinery as directed to complete stormwater drainage maintenance and construction projects.
• Experience and sound knowledge of working out and transferring level.
• Perform a range of labouring tasks, such as installation and maintenance of pipes, culverts, drains, installation and maintenance of signs, traffic control, etc
• Carry out other duties as directed within the scope of the employee’s skills and abilities and in accordance with the Councils Drainage Maintenance program.

About You

To be successful for this role you will require:

• Sound experience in operating excavators.
• Demonstrated experience in physical labouring.
• Demonstrated understanding and experience in drainage construction and maintenance duties associated with Stormwater Drainage networks.
• Experience in plant and vehicle operations, such as trucks, multi and combo rollers and water cart trucks and maintaining them in good condition.
• Current unrestricted Heavy Rigid (HR or HR-B) or Heavy Combination (HC) licence.

• Current WA Construction Industry Card (CIC) White card.
• Basic Worksite Traffic Management (BWTM) and Traffic Controller (TC) tickets or the ability to obtain them.
• Quickcut Saw ticket or ability to obtain one.
  

Hours of Work

This is permanent full-time position working Monday to Friday, 76 hours over a 9-day fortnight with a rostered day off.

4. Previous experience in using and maintaining a Human Resources Information System. 
5. Sound problem-solving and research skills.

This is a permanent full-time position working Monday to Friday, 75 hours per fortnight.

About the Benefits

This position is being offered as a one-year fixed-term contract, on a salary of $82,739 per annum plus superannuation.  Other inclusions are annual salary increases, a generous superannuation co-contribution scheme and 22 days annual leave which attracts 17.5% loading. We also offer flexible work arrangements such as 9-day fortnight, 19-day month, flexi-time and working from home.
