The City of Kalamunda has released its draft Tourism Development Strategy for public comment.

The Strategy was developed through extensive community consultation and is designed to guide the City of Kalamunda in achieving their tourism vision, through a community-led framework over the next six financial years.

Mayor John Giardina said, “Our vision is to establish the City of Kalamunda as a major tourist destination with a sustainable and vibrant future.

As a community, we will achieve this by creating remarkable and memorable visitor experiences that celebrate our natural environment and rich cultural heritage.

We will aim to maximise opportunities for innovative partnerships and tourism ventures and help to create committed and passionate local ambassadors for the City.”

The draft document outlines five key strategies and the actions required to achieve their delivery.

The first of the strategies focuses on creating and maintaining welcoming, inclusive and accessible facilities for visitors to enjoy the natural and built environment.

The other strategies share their focus between leveraging the area’s natural beauty, enhancing branding and marketing and creating opportunities for participation, creative investment and collaboration.

Mayor John Giardina said the development of the draft Strategy was a key milestone for the City.

“We live in a beautiful part of the world that attracts visitors from near and far. Over the last five years, Kalamunda has welcomed an average of 295,000 visitors a year and we’ve made it a key priority to develop and enhance this experience.

I would like to thank everyone involved in the development of this draft Strategy, particularly the volunteers of the Tourism Community Reference Group, with a special mention to the Chairperson Francesca Flynn. This Strategy will help us achieve our tourism vision and I encourage everyone to check it out and share their feedback.”
