Are you passionate about making the place you live the best it can be? Are you interested in improving a space or place, or connecting with your community?

The City of Kalamunda supports the development of Town Teams in our community, with the goal of having each Town Team collaborate with the City to drive change through placemaking, community development and create a positive, can-do culture.

The City called for Expressions of Interest in February 2019 and is now kicking off the next phase of the town team movement.

Town Teams will work with the community's assets, inspiration, energy, and positive intention, to create public spaces that promote people's health, happiness, connection and wellbeing.

The City will be hosting four workshops throughout the month of June to launch town teams.

The workshops will be facilitated by Dean Cracknell, CEO Town Team Movement and feature guest speakers from other Town Teams who will share their insight and experiences.

Mayor John Giardina said,  “Driven by community, for community, the Town Team Movement creates a people centred movement to inspire our town to collectively reimagine and reinvent public spaces as the heart of our community.”

“It is all a part of our Kalamunda Connected Strategy, which aims to enrich lives and strengthen communities through empowerment.”

“For many people who live here, community is such a strong part of our identity. We have so many individuals, community groups, sporting groups and businesses here that have a strong community focus.”

“As a local government, our role is to collaborate and work with these positive and proactive people within the community to drive positive change.”

“I encourage everyone who is interested in joining the Town Team movement, to come along to a workshop and find out more about this exciting movement.”

Workshops will be held on Monday 10 June from 6pm to 8pm at the City of Kalamunda Administration, 2 Railway Road Kalamunda;  Wednesday 12 June from 6pm to 8pm at Hartfield Park Recreation Centre, 199 Hale Road, Forrestfield; Saturday 22 June from 1pm to 3pm at Lesmurdie Hall, Lesmurdie and Monday 24 June from 6pm to 3pm at High Wycombe Community and Recreation Centre, 200 Newburn Road, High Wycombe. All are welcome.

The purpose of the workshop will be to introduce interested residents to the world wide Town Team movement, with workshop participants undergoing brainstorming and visioning exercises to help drive positive change in our communities. The workshop aims to kick start the activities, contribute to new ideas, and gain a shared understanding of challenges, explore community opportunities, build collaboration and launch the Town Teams in the City of Kalamunda!

Placemaking is all about making these town centres, enjoyable, beautiful and functional, putting more heart and soul into our home towns.

All are welcome but are asked to RSVP for catering purposes by calling (08) 9257 9999 or by email to enquiries@kalamunda.wa.gov.au.
