Mayor John Giardina said the fence surrounding the park had been removed allowing community full access to the previously restricted area.

“The Community showcased their passion for the site, when it was initially closed for remediation to take place, citing their enjoyment in hosting family picnics on the grass, having BBQs and enjoying the nearby walk trails.”

Site restoration was announced in 2016 with preliminary work starting in April 2018. Capping commenced in May 2018 with earthworks completed in July 2018. Site revegetation kicked off in August 2018 with mid-2019 forecast for reopening.

The park, deemed Public Open Space, is subject to an ongoing Site Management Plan. The site has officially been reclassified by the Department of Water and Environmental Regulation (DWER) upon advice from the Department of Health (DoH).
