Athletes recognised for outstanding achievements

The City of Kalamunda presented a whopping $14,850 in grants to 70 Kalamunda Sports Stars at an awards reception on Wednesday, 20 November.

The annual awards event recognises the achievement of local athletes selected to represent WA or Australia in their chosen sport. Athletes under 18 are eligible to receive up to $250 while athletes aged 18 to 25 can apply up to $150.

City of Kalamunda Mayor, Cr Margaret Thomas, congratulated the 2019 recipients for their exceptional commitment and skill. 

“I am constantly impressed with the efforts and achievements of our local sporting stars and I look forward to hearing of their ongoing success,” Mayor Thomas said.  

The 2019 awards night recognised local athletes from eight suburbs and 25 sports including softball, gymnastics, soccer, swimming, athletics,  tennis, taekwondo, water skiing, cross country and mountain biking.

“The City of Kalamunda is proud to have so many local sporting clubs committed to developing the talents of our future stars,” Mayor Thomas said.

“We recognise the importance of developing and supporting talented junior athletes in our area and will continue to encourage young athletes to prioritise their health and fitness.”
