City Supports Free Fire Recovery Workshop for Residents

03 February 2020 4:25 PM

With the recent devastating bushfire crisis, and recent fire at Lesmurdie Falls, front of mind, the City of Kalamunda is urging residents to attend its free Fire Recovery and Resilience Workshop on Saturday 29 February at Bunnings, Kalamunda.

Presented by The Forever Project, the City-sponsored event starts at 8:30am with five, 50-minute themed-workshops running into the afternoon with insights from award-winning TV and radio gardening presenter Chris Ferreira.

City of Kalamunda Mayor, Cr Margaret Thomas JP, said it was important the local community understood fire risks and learned skills to best manage and respond if needed.

“I am delighted to bring this event to our community,” Cr Thomas said.  “Through the workshops, residents will learn vital home, garden and animal fire preparation skills that could prove invaluable in protecting themselves and their properties from fire.”

The Forever Project’s Mr Ferreira has more than 20 years’ experience in land management teaching more than 120,000 people through his award-winning programs Great Gardens and Heavenly Hectares.

He encourages residents to join him at the free, February workshop.

“We want to help the community become more knowledgeable, engaged and better prepared for a fire event,” Mr Ferreira said.

“Throughout the day we’ll focus on preparing, maintaining and protecting homes, gardens and animals from the threat of fire as well as preserving and resurrecting native flora and fauna post-event.”

The Forever Project’s Fire Recovery and Resilience Workshop for Perth Hills residents is at Bunnings Kalamunda on Saturday 29 February from 9.30 - 2.00pm featuring lively talks and demos. All are welcome.
