Free Plants for Residents

19 May 2020 1:30 PM

The City of Kalamunda is pleased to announce the highly anticipated Plants For Residents program will commence this week.

The past 22 years have seen backyards across the City of Kalamunda transform with residents taking home some 220,000 free plants from the City. This year will be slightly different though, with the City reviewing its delivery model in the wake of the COVID-19 Pandemic.

Mayor Margaret Thomas said, “The program takes months of planning, with the plants starting to grow back in 2019.”

“COVID forced the City to review the model, and as such I am excited to announce that in 2020 we will have an online order form, with a click and collect pick up model.”

“Over the years we have seen hundreds arrive, que and select their free plants.  This year you will select your plants on-line.”

Online orders can be placed here*, with collection scheduled to take place over the 5 – 7 June 2020.

“Our community is passionate about preserving and growing our natural environment and Urban Forest, which is why this program is so special to the City and to our residents.”

“The plants for residents program inspires and supports residents to do something positive for their local environment, starting in their own backyard. Over time inspiration grows, residents extend their enthusiasm and many join a local Friends Group or get involved in community planting days.”

“We are very lucky to be able to share this program with our residents, which as we understand, is provided by only a small number of local governments in Perth.”

Residents can obtain up to 15 free plants per rateable property, offered on a first come first serve basis until they run out. There are over 50 native plant species on this year’s giveaway list to choose from.  They are selected for their water efficiency and ability to attract native wildlife.

Residents are reminded to head online to place their orders and select a collection preference. They will then receive a confirmation which they need to bring with them when picking up the plants.

Head online* from Tuesday 19th May to register.  Call (08) 9257 9999 if you have any issues. Registrations close 5pm 31 May 2020, or until allocation is exhausted.

* UPDATE: THURSDAY, 21 MAY 2020 - ONLINE CLICK AND COLLECT PLANT REGISTRATIONS HAVE BEEN CLOSED ALL PLANTS HAVE BEEN RESERVED.
