City Excited By Containers for Change Launch

01 October 2020 3:21 PM

City of Kalamunda residents will be able to cash in eligible containers for 10 cents each at any authorised Container for Change refund point from 1 October.

Mayor Margaret Thomas said the much-anticipated program would work to improve the City’s recycling efforts and help to keep the local environment rubbish-free.

“Nearly 45% of all litter in Western Australia comes from discarded, recyclable beverage containers,” Cr Thomas said.

“Through this program residents will have the chance to make real change and earn some extra money while they’re at it.

“Also, anyone recycling through Containers for Change will be contributing to reducing litter and landfill and the program provides great opportunities for community groups and social enterprises to access additional income streams.

“It’s easy to get started – just start collecting eligible containers, return them to a collection point and swap them for payment!,” Cr Thomas said. Alternatively, residents can take them to a donation point providing much needed fund raising for community groups.

There are four return options - depots, reverse vending machines, bag drops and pop-up refund points.
