Mayor Margaret Thomas said , “There have been numerous studies, surveys, reports and assessments carried out and I am delighted to let the community know the draft Business Case for a New Aquatic Facility is available for public comment and I encourage everyone to have their say so we can better understand which of the options our community would like us to progress.”

The draft Business Case provides a detailed Options Analysis including access, location, design, previous and revised proposals and recommends a ‘two-facility model’ that incorporates an upgraded Kalamunda Water Park and a new facility in the foothills, proposed to be adjacent to the High Wycombe Train Station.

Listed improvements for the Kalamunda Water Park – Option 1a include a 50m, heated outdoor pool; outdoor heated Learn to Swim pool; refurbished change rooms with hot water showers; new water slides; a half-court basketball and picnic area.

A new build in the foothills (Option 2b) has recommended the following features – an Indoor heated 25m and learn to swim pools; indoor slides; outdoor heated 50m pool; spa, sauna, steam room, hydrotherapy and fitness centre with supporting amenities.

The draft Business Case outlines the estimated capital costs for the preferred options, being Option1a) and Option 2b), which are estimated to cost approximately $7.5m and $32m respectively. These projects form part of the City’s advocacy campaign to attract significant external funding from both State and Federal Governments, and potentially commercial partners.

It is important to note that aquatic facilities are not cheap to operate and the study outlines these considerations for rate payers.

Council is seeking feedback from the community on the options presented in the business case and their affordability to understand how ratepayers feel about the draft business cases recommendations.

“The City is committed to delivering a best practice aquatic facility that will meet the future needs of our growing community while achieving value for ratepayers,” Cr Thomas said.

“This is a massive investment for our community and we want to hear what people think about the available options so we can move forward with a shared vision.”
