City Launches Kalamunda Advancing: Strategic Community Plan 2021-2031
The City of Kalamunda has officially launched its new Strategic Community Plan, a guiding document for the City and community over the next 10 years.
Mayor Margaret Thomas said Kalamunda Advancing: Strategic Community Plan 2021-2031 details the City’s long term, overarching strategy and sets out the community’s aspirations and priorities for the future.
“Our Plan defines the City’s priorities and provides clear direction on how we want to achieve them which we then use to guide our budget and resource allocations, infrastructure, services and asset management, operations and planning as well as informing other key strategies and plans,” Cr Thomas said.
A major review of the Strategic Community Plan was undertaken in 2020 to gauge whether community ambitions had changed in the last four-years and to explore any emerging themes.
The 2020 review consisted of two major components; the first being a review and summary of all achievements under the existing plan, with the second component to undertake community engagement to understand focus areas.
More than 1,100 people including residents and stakeholders provided feedback via the 2020 Community Scorecard, surveys, the City’s engage portal, along with community and advisory committee workshops.
All feedback was reviewed and filtered into the draft Plan which was released for public comment in April 2021. The final Plan was presented to Council and endorsed at the May 2021 Council meeting.
“Kalamunda Advancing: Strategic Community Plan 2021-2031 has a strong focus on investing in infrastructure to improve our road networks, building shared paths and cycle ways, improved parks, and improving recreation facilities and community hubs to better connect our communities,” Cr Thomas said.
“We are focused, with a vision for a connected community, valuing nature and creating our future together.”
“It also identifies the ongoing need to protecting and enhance our natural environment which we will do through the continued development and implementation of our Local Environment, Urban Forest and Biodiversity strategies and the Environmental Land Use Planning Strategy (ELUPS).
“Achieving our future vision cannot be done in isolation and I encourage the whole community to stay involved and help us deliver the Plan and help guide what comes next.”
