Maida Vale Road Roundabout Works To Start

The City if Kalamunda has started prepping for a new roundabout at the Maida Vale Road-Roe Highway off ramp.

This week, Mayor Margaret Thomas confirmed preliminary works for the long-awaited roundabout underway with the off ramp closing to vehicles from mid-June 2021 for three-months.

Works include constructing the roundabout, new pavement treatment on all approaches along with drainage and street-lighting upgrades.

“The City is rapt to see this project kick off following many years of community advocacy for a roundabout at the location,” Cr Thomas said. “It’s a big project with the City allocating more than $530,000 to the project, including State Black Spot funding received back in 2017.”

Over the past three-years the City has worked diligently to co-ordinate project timing to ensure minimal disruption to the community and visitors to the region.

“We were keen to progress the project as soon as possible. We had to co-ordinate with Main Roads given the earmarked Kalamunda Road-Roe Highway interchange project was also on the cards for the same time and the Maida Vale Road offramp was needed as a detour for that project,” Cr Thomas said.

“This current situation truly reflects the saying – short term pain for long term gain. Fast forward to the end of the year and the project will deliver safer access to Maida Vale Road for all vehicles.”

The City appreciates the community’s ongoing patience regarding more roadworks in the area. To help things run smoothly, 24/7 traffic management and signed detours will be in place to assist motorists seeking access to the City of Kalamunda from mid-June 2021 until project completion. Local residents will have access to their properties at all times.
