City to push ahead with Waste Management Initiatives
The City of Kalamunda will push ahead with plans to implement for residents a Food Organic and Garden Organic (FOGO) kerbside collection and processing in 2024.
It will seek tenders from industry to provide the processing capability to convert FOGO waste into compost in line with the State and City’s Waste Plans.
Over the past 25 years the City has been part of a partnership with a number of other local Councils forming a regional council (Eastern Metropolitan Regional Council - EMRC) aimed at providing undertake waste management and allied services to Councils
Mayor Margaret Thomas said, “The world of waste has changed significantly over the last few decades.”
‘We have reached a point in the journey where the City needs to directly manage its waste, for the benefit of all.”
‘I would like to thank the EMRC for all of their work to date.”
The City will end its membership of the EMRC on 30 June 2023.
Significant community engagement and awareness campaigns will now commence on the exciting transition to FOGO.
