Stirk Park has hit another major milestone in its upgrade with works underway on the new skate park and nature playground.
The new and improved park will consist of several amenities, including a half-sized basketball court for all ages, equipment for both play and exercise, BBQs for social gatherings, new seating and shaded areas, and the City’s very own heritage bridge.
Mayor Margaret Thomas said the highly anticipated upgrade will foster a sense of community amongst residents and entice tourists to visit the area.
“Excitement is brewing in the community, as you can now see the earthworks are well underway for the new stake park and nature playground. We expect the project will be completed at the end of the year.”
In 2018, the Stirk Park Master Plan was adopted by the City to improve the overall state of Stirk Park, with the development of a new playground and a skate park as a top priority.
Since then, plans for the Stirk Park Playground have been underway, including a zig zag boardwalk for young ones, a triple swing, thread chimes, a rope walk and many more fun activities to enjoy!
After deliberation with the young people of the City, the Skate Park project will be set to contain Junior and Intermediate ‘Street Plaza’ and Flow Bowl skate zones.
The $3.8M project will be funded from multiple sources, including the Federal Government’s Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program, the City of Kalamunda, the Rotary Club of Kalamunda and Lotterywest, and is due for completion in late 2023.
