The City of Kalamunda is excited to welcome back the Tarmac West Rally (formerly Targa West), which promises to be bigger and better than ever in 2024.

After a two-year pause, Perth’s premier tarmac rally event will take place from 12-15 September 2024, drawing thousands of spectators to venues across the region, including Riverside Drive in the CBD, Kalamunda, Mundaring, Malaga, Bullsbrook, Toodyay, Chittering, and Whiteman Park.

The Kalamunda stage is set for Friday, 13 September, featuring the exhilarating Zig Zag route and an extended stage along Croxton Road and Mundaring Weir Road. Residents will have the chance to witness competitors tackle these challenging courses as they race to set the fastest time.

Mayor Margaret Thomas expressed her enthusiasm for the event's return: “We are thrilled to see Tarmac West Rally back in Kalamunda. It’s a fantastic event that brings our community together, offering a unique blend of excitement and local spirit. I encourage everyone to come out and enjoy the spectacle.”

Many residents along the route embrace the rally, turning the event into a social gathering where friends, family, and neighbours can watch top-tier tarmac rallying from the comfort and safety of their own front yards or designated spectator viewing points.

A Spectator Guide, containing all the essential information for the rally weekend, is available online at www.tarmacevents.com.au. Rally enthusiasts can also follow the latest action on the event’s Facebook page at www.facebook.com/tarmacevents

Motor enthusiasts will particularly enjoy the ‘Lunch Stop’ on Haynes Street, Kalamunda, where a stunning display of luxury and vintage cars will be showcased.

To ensure the safety of all spectators and competitors, road closures will be in place on the day. For detailed information on road closures and reopening times, please visit www.kalamunda.wa.gov.au/tarmac-west

Mayor Thomas also highlighted the significant efforts made by the event organisers to prioritise safety: “The Tarmac West Rally team has gone above and beyond to create and deliver a safe event for everyone involved. They are fully committed to embedding comprehensive safety measures for both participants and spectators, ensuring that this beloved sport continues to thrive.

"In light of the higher road fatalities recorded this year and the recent tragedies on our local roads, the organisers have worked tirelessly to implement these precautions. Their dedication to safety is crucial in keeping the spirit of the rally alive while protecting our community. I encourage everyone to enjoy the event, but please do so with safety in mind."
