Magnolia Way Reserve All Abilities Playground Now Open

05 September 2024 9:56 AM

The Magnolia Way Reserve All Abilities Playground in Forrestfield officially opened with a Pop-Up Play Day on Wednesday, 4 September.

The new playground, designed to be inclusive for children of all abilities, was funded by the State Government through the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries via an election commitment from Stephen Price MLA, Member for Forrestfield.

The play space features a variety of interactive elements designed to engage children physically, socially, and imaginatively, including a Sensory Dome, Climbing Cubes, and an accessible Hammock.

The playground design was carefully reviewed by the City’s Disability and Carers Advisory Group (DACAG) to ensure it meets the needs of all children.

Mayor Margaret Thomas expressed her excitement about the new playground, saying, “This playground is more than just a play space; it’s a place where children of all abilities can come together, explore, and have fun. We’re proud to have created a space that is truly inclusive and welcoming to everyone in our community.”

While the playground is open, a few amenities are still in progress including the accessible toilets which are currently in the procurement process and will be installed soon. Despite these minor delays, the decision was made to open the playground early due to strong community interest.

The park also includes a shelter, BBQ facilities, a drink fountain, picnic areas, and plenty of seating, making it an ideal spot for a family day out. Accessible parking bays and footpath access ensure that everyone can enjoy the space comfortably.

Mayor Thomas concluded, “This playground is a testament to our commitment to inclusivity and community. We invite everyone to come and experience this fantastic new space.”

Comments to be attributed to the Member for Forrestfield Stephen Price:

"This was an important issue raised with me by many constituents prior to the last state election in 2021. As a result, I was delighted to commit a million dollars to this fantastic project."

“I am so pleased to see the project come to fruition and can’t wait to see kids of all ages and abilities enjoying this space.”
