New Foothills Men’s Shed Construction Gets Underway
The City of Kalamunda marked the beginning of construction on the much-anticipated new Foothills Men’s Shed with a ceremonial sod-turning event at Hartfield Park on Monday, 16 September 2024.
Mayor Margaret Thomas was joined by Member for Forrestfield Stephen Price MLA and Federal Member for Swan Zaneta Mascarenhas to celebrate the occasion.
The new Men’s Shed is a key feature of the Hartfield Park Master Plan Stage 2, which includes multimillion-dollar upgrades to enhance local sports facilities and community spaces at Hartfield Park Reserve in Forrestfield.
Brausch Construction will lead the construction of the new Foothills Men’s Shed, with completion anticipated by mid-2025.

Lotterywest Acting CEO Jeremy Hubble said Lotterywest is proud to support the City of Kalamunda with a $290,000 grant for the new Foothills Men's Shed.
"This purpose-built facility will provide a dedicated space for people to share common interests and develop new skills," Mr Hubble said.
"Men's Sheds are vital for so many, providing a space for the community to come together, which addresses social isolation and improves mental health and wellbeing."
Mayor Thomas shared her enthusiasm for the project, emphasising its positive impact on the community: “This is a significant milestone for our City and an exciting new chapter for the Foothills Men’s Shed.
“The new facility will offer more space and better amenities, supporting our community and fostering social connections for men of all ages. It’s not just about the building; it’s about creating a place for learning, sharing skills, and building friendships.”
Since 2011, the Foothills Men’s Shed has been operating at Anderson Road but has outgrown its current facility, limiting membership opportunities. The new Hartfield Park location will provide room for growth and improved operations.
This project has been made possible thanks to the generous support of the Federal Government’s Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communications and the Arts through the Priority Community Infrastructure Program (PCIP), Lotterywest who are a major supporter, the City of Kalamunda and the Foothills Men’s Shed.
