Youth x RAC x Kalamunda Town Team Haynes Revival Project

The City of Kalamunda, in partnership with the RAC and Youth Action Kalamunda team, is excited to announce the Haynes Street Revival Project – a community-driven initiative to transform Haynes Street in the Kalamunda Town Centre into a more vibrant, safe, and welcoming space for all.

Supported by $12,500 in funding from the RAC, the project aims to revitalise the Haynes Street streetscape and local laneways, connecting key community hubs. This initiative is a collaboration with the Kalamunda Town Team, engaging local youth, businesses, and the broader community to design a street that reflects the unique identity of Kalamunda while promoting pedestrian mobility and safety.

Mayor Margaret Thomas expressed her enthusiasm for the project, stating, “This partnership with the RAC and our local youth empowers the community to create a space that is not only vibrant and engaging but also promotes safety and inclusivity. It’s about giving our young people a voice in shaping the future of their town.”

The project aligns with the RAC’s vision of creating safer streets that encourage active transport and better pedestrian access. By actively involving local youth and the community, the City aims to discourage anti-social behaviour, enhance the sense of safety, and foster pride in the area.

In the January school holidays, the project team will bring the revitalisation project to Haynes Street with installation of temporary outdoor furniture, lighting and décor to bring the precinct to life and linking up with the laneway artwork project, led by Kalamunda Town Team.

This collaboration is a perfect example of how local partnerships can inspire creativity, connection, and a shared vision for the future.

The Project Team is calling for expressions of interest to be part of the project. For more information and to submit your EOI, visit https://www.kalamunda.wa.gov.au/Haynes-street-revival-pop-p-street-makeover-project

The first Co-Design Workshop for the project is taking place this Saturday 2 November 2024, 10am to 1pm at Zig Zag Cultural Centre, Kalamunda.
