City Backs Community-Driven Cultural Initiative
At the December Ordinary Council Meeting, the City of Kalamunda expressed its support for the concept of the Perth Observatory Sculpture Park and a biennial sculpture event. This initiative marks an exciting step toward creating a significant cultural experience in the region.
The initiative, brought forward by a passionate local group, aims to integrate art, nature, and community, establishing the Perth Hills as a hub for cultural tourism. The Perth Observatory Sculpture Park will feature outdoor art trails set within the picturesque Bickley Valley, creating a world-class destination for locals and visitors alike.
The project will launch to life with an inaugural sculpture biennial exhibition in Autumn 2026, that will serve as the signature opening event of the sculpture park, positioning the Perth Hills as a cultural hub and boosting tourism.
The event promises to draw artists and visitors from across WA, around Australia, and the globe.
Mayor Margaret Thomas expressed her enthusiasm for the project, stating: “This project is something incredibly special because it comes directly from our community. As a City, we are thrilled to work with our community to make great things happen. It was incredibly easy to support this initiative, as the group behind it presented a robust business case, a realistic timeline, and a vision that promises to bring a significant cultural experience to our beautiful region.”
“The Perth Observatory Sculpture Park will appeal to locals, day trippers, and visitors to our State. I applaud the group for their dedication, and I look forward to seeing their vision come to life with a launch in 2026.”
