The new citizens, hailing from 14 diverse countries, were warmly embraced by the community and officially welcomed by Mayor Margaret Thomas, who presided over the ceremony. Mayor Thomas shared her excitement about the occasion, highlighting the cultural richness and sense of unity that new citizens bring to Kalamunda. 

“I am always delighted to officiate this important event. It’s a privilege to welcome new members to our vibrant community and celebrate the shared values that make Kalamunda such a special place,” said Mayor Thomas. 

The ceremony also shone a spotlight on three extraordinary individuals who received the Community Citizen of the Year Awards for their outstanding contributions. 

Thomas Hogg was named the Senior Community Citizen of the Year in recognition of his 24 years of exceptional dedication to fundraising, volunteering, and advocacy. 

Wayne Garwood was honoured as the Community Citizen of the Year for his tireless work in organising the beloved Kalamunda Show, a cherished event that unites the community year after year. 

Leo Russel was recognised as the Young Community Citizen of the Year for their unwavering commitment to youth activities and their exemplary leadership potential. 

"These awards honour the incredible efforts of individuals who go above and beyond to enrich our community,” Mayor Thomas said. “Their selflessness and dedication are truly inspiring, and we’re so proud to celebrate their achievements.”
