New Roundabout to Improve Road Safety at Elizabeth Street and Railway Road Intersection
The City of Kalamunda is upgrading the Elizabeth Street and Railway Road intersection to improve road safety and reduce the risk of accidents.
The intersection has been identified as a high-risk location, with 23 recorded crashes between 2019 and 2024. Of these crashes, 21 were right-angled collisions. To address this issue, the City secured $685,000 in funding under the Federally funded Black Spot Program.
Following community consultation and expert assessments, a roundabout with a raised mountable centre island has been selected as the preferred solution. This design will effectively reduce vehicle speeds while maintaining accessibility for larger vehicles and preserving the area’s existing mature trees.
City of Kalamunda Mayor Margaret Thomas said the upgrade is a significant step in ensuring safer roads for all users.
"Community safety remains our top priority, and this project reflects our commitment to delivering an effective solution that balances safety improvements with community expectations. We have listened to residents and worked closely with road safety experts to implement the most effective design."
Works are anticipated to start by late 2025 and be completed by June
2026.
Residents and road users are encouraged to stay informed via the City’s website and social media channels.
