Adopt-A-Patch

A schools-based program focused on the City's vision Connected Communities, Valuing Nature and Creating our Future Together.

This program was launched to schools in 2019, after a successful pilot program was undertaken with the  Kalamunda Secondary Education Support Centre (KSESC). The project was built upon this positive experience with KSESC and provides opportunities for other schools in the City of Kalamunda to Adopt-A-Patch.

Schools use their patch as an outdoor classroom, learn to care for local patch of bush, work with Friends Group volunteers and learn about broader sustainability principles that contribute to long term environmental health.  It also provides opportunity to engage with the schools’ parent population to assist them in managing their patch.  It is anticipated that a natural progression from this will be to support and/or join a Friends Group.

Adopt-A-Patch LogoThe programs four main themes are:

  1. Indigenous culture and connection to Country.
  2. Rubbish in the environment.
  3. Local Flora, Fauna and Habitat.
  4. Connection to Community.
