Local History Award

Written and photographic entries on subjects such as:

• People or groups (individuals, families, local artists, businesses, community groups or sporting clubs, schools and religious or charitable groups)
• Places (histories of houses and buildings, streets, lanes, parks, trees or landmarks)
• Events

The winners will be selected based on their historical significance, either in terms of contribution towards the development of the Kalamunda region or as an example of everyday life, and the quality of photographs or writing.

Award Categories

• Written Memoir
  A written memoir up to 2500 words, optionally may include 1 photograph. Write about yourself or someone you know who has lived or worked in the City of Kalamunda, or a group, business, organisation or event in the City of Kalamunda.
  
• Photographic Memories
  A photograph from pre-2000 of a significant historic person, place or event, or which convey everyday life in the City of Kalamunda in the past.

There will be two (2) prizes awarded for each category.

Prizes

• 1 x Winner: $200 in Kalacash
• 1 x Highly Commended: $100 Kalacash

JUDGES
The awards will be judged by the Kalamunda and Districts Historical Society.

Judging will be completed by end of February 2023 followed by a presentation ceremony in March 2023.

• The 2023 Awards are open to all individuals, including non-residents, provided the subject matter is about people, places or events in the City of Kalamunda.
• Only entries received by 5pm on Tuesday, 31 January 2023 will be considered and reviewed.
• All entries will be considered, however entries selected for publication and/or display will be considered based on current conditions of cultural sensitivity.
• Entries received will become part of the City of Kalamunda's Local History Collection.
  
• Entries can be published and shared by the City of Kalamunda's Local History in publications and other digital formats.
• Selected winning entries will be featured in an online anthology.
• Entrants may submit up to a maximum of 10 separate entries.
• The winners will be selected based on their historical significance, either in terms of contribution towards the development of Kalamunda or as an example of everyday life, and the quality of photographs or writing. Entries may relate to people and events in any of the suburbs within the City of Kalamunda (Bickley, Canning Mills, Carmel, Forrestfield, Gooseberry Hill, Hacketts Gully, High Wycombe, Kalamunda, Lesmurdie, Maida Vale, Paulls Valley, Pickering Brook, Piesse Brook and Wattle Grove).
• There are two (2) prizes for each of the categories.
  • Winners for Written Memoir & Photographic Memories categories will receive $200 in Kalacash
  • Highly Commended winners will each receive $100 Kalacash.
• Judging will be completed by end of February 2023.
• Presentation ceremony will be held in March 2023.
• The awards will be judged by the Kalamunda and Districts Historical Society. Judging Panel decision is final.
