Volunteering with the Friends Group and Bushcare Volunteer Program offers meaningful opportunities to improve both mental and physical well-being. As Jeanette Conacher, Coordinator of the Friends of Over Avenue, explains:
"The pleasure of being outdoors together, of doing something useful, of learning something new, and having a sense of achievement at the end of a job well done" are key benefits of volunteering.
The program provides a chance to connect with nature, reduce stress, and foster a sense of purpose while enjoying physical activities like planting, weeding, and rubbish removal. Being outdoors enhances fitness and promotes relaxation, with scientific evidence showing that engaging the senses in natural settings improves heart health, lowers blood pressure, and boosts overall health.By participating, volunteers not only enhance their well-being but also contribute to the conservation of Kalamunda’s unique environment.
